Sunday Night with DJ Clari Best Dance night around

Sunday Night Barefoot Boogie Berkeley/San Francisco 7:30 – 10:30

This was one of those nights where everyone is flying and leaping in modern dance style, where the Contact Improv is combined with Dance and Flow, where your partner is the room as one moving pulsing energy, or with another fancy of flight in passing.

This venue, Barefoot Boogie, has morphed once again into a dancer’s dream of space, other dancers, and your own private DJ.

DJ Clari’s theme tonight could be called pulsing romantic, and from this writer’s point of view, that was a well delivered fine choice.  Opening for the 7:30 to 8:30 hour with Yoga stretch about fifteen dancers showed up to warm up their bodies for the next two hours to come.  DJ Clari’s transition to the fast section featured some changing beat cuts that allowed us to hang back with the slow or move forward into the fast. No problem finding a partner to make that trip with, either.

As regular weekly dance nights go, this one has the most repeat regular dancers combined with it’s own studio style. Low key lighting and a red lace shear cover the entrance into this magical studio with yoga mats, couches,  high ceilings, and a warm heater for those winter nights.  The style of dance is brought to this venue by history and also a changing modern dance, contact improv and barefoot boogie styles with some flamboyance of Ecstatic Dance thrown in.

Not a lot of pomp and circumstance here, no giant altar with candles, just a dancer’s refuge, and end of the week closure or a tuning of your body for the beginning of the next.

Plenty of free parking in a safe well lighted neighborhood, 7:30 to 10:30 weekly.

Making your body move "as you wish" is the final frontier to finding happiness.
