Now here’s a magical DJ. He comes to Ecstatic Dance bringing both the ethereal and the uber-bass funk. If you are into any of the forms of this dance: Dance Jam, Barefoot Boogie, Freestyle, Dance Free or Ecstatic, then DJ Tofanelli has something for you.
Of the three major parts to his night, opening, fast middle, and closing, each was strong. Some comments heard throughout the night were:
- Great long quieter opening to get me ready to move.
- It is too loud. (from the middle)
- The ending was like going to a concert on the grass or beach.
- 3 guys said it was boring and left in the middle
- Variety – form ethereal almost ‘old goth’ to club with an edge
- Not bad, but there was no hispanic, african, or latin
- Plus - he brings a very interesting beat, sort of like club dancing with a sis-to-side and cross step. Club dancers will love Tofanelli
- Rhythms varied with multiple peaks – whether you stayed for one hour or three, you got a full ride up and down the spectrum of movement
- Crowds stayed to the end – this says a lot as dancers found the energy to stay for the whole thing as it was a special night you knew was precious.
This space, the Oakland Sweets Ballroom holds a hundred plus dancers on the floor plus three (yes, count ‘em – 3!) altars honoring ‘Dance as temple and Body as Temple’. A nice space, a great venue, good vibes.
Loudness Rating: 3 Optional: Nice sound levels, if you usually wear them OK, if not OK too, but the middle is definitely a 5 - loud!
