Barefoot Boogie at 8th Street Studios Berkeley Sunday nights 7:30 to 11:00 PM is similar to other dance nights Ecstatic Dance East Bay in Oakland Wednesday nights and DanceJam in Berkeley on Friday nights. All three vary slightly by types of dance, socializing, and DJ’s music but are similar in the slow medium fast progression format and that they are non-alcoholic drug free barefoot dances. Barefoot Boogie Sunday nights is the most intimate in space and group up to fifty people, most of whom dance at one or two other studios each week and come here for the special magic that Barefoot Boogie brings to this scene.
DJ Adama opened the first half at 7:30 with an entirely new set of music. By 8:30 the tempo changed to mixed medium and slow tempo and room completed its warm up stretch and started to dance together in pulsing with underlying world rhythms. DJ Adama hit the fast section a little after 9 PM with all new selections as the room, now filling with many first timers, really took off to an evening of dancing movement and pleasure.
Barefoot Boogie plays a melting pot of African, Latin, Middle Eastern, Celtic, and the Americas in genres of rock, electronic, jazz, classical, R&B, house, funk, and playful oldies (to spice things up), Clari stirs Dance styles vary constantly by dancer from yoga type moves to world beat to ballet-esque leaps and spins.
